Lipoedema is a chronic condition where fat builds up in an unusual way, most often in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes the arms. Unlike general weight gain, this fat distribution is caused by changes in how the body stores fat and is often painful or tender to touch. People with lipoedema may notice easy bruising, swelling that doesn’t go away with rest, and a disproportionate body shape where the lower body looks much larger than the upper body. Lipoedema is not caused by lifestyle choices, and it does not respond in the same way to diet or exercise as regular fat. With the right diagnosis and support however, symptoms can be managed to improve mobility, reduce discomfort, and protect long-term health.
Living with lipoedema can be difficult, but the right nutrition can make a real difference in managing symptoms and reducing inflammation.
